World Building Illustration/Storytelling Through Art Fall 2021

Fall 2021 Remote Class

Unit One: World Building Illustration

Let your imagination come to life! Let’s draw a planet together where there are plants, animals, people who only you have seen. Throughout the semester, we will develop & learn the basic elements of storytelling in one of its core elements, its world. They will be making their own worlds and inhabitants, as well as learning how the environments they create influence the "people" living in them. We will dive into making maps of the worlds we create & diorama.

Unit Two: Neverland & Beyond: Storytelling through Art

Artists throughout history have told stories. From cave paintings to graphic novels, people have used art to communicate their experiences. In this course we will set the stage by reading short tales or excerpts from books around the world including tales of mythology, of ancient Egypt, Never Neverland and more to create our own personal visual narratives through drawing. We will also read different versions of the same story, share stories we have been told, and bring them to life through our drawings. This class harnesses the student’s creativity and guides them through spoken and visual storytelling.
