SPRING BREAK 2018: TUESDAY APRIL 3 - HACKERS (Grades 3-6)

Geek Forest

DEAD TECH REVIVAL (morning)
Teacher: Arielle Mella
In this workshop, students will be learning basic interaction and interface design through hacking recycled materials, electronics, and trash. The students will be learning the importance of recycling and how a lot of tech devices can have a second life after their intended purpose. Just because something doesn’t work like it should does not mean it is useless! Spark your Tinkerer’s creativity through upcycling and arts and crafts!

microBit: LOCK BOX WORKSHOP (afternoon)
Teacher: Arielle Mella
Burglar alarms are a great way to deter sneaky so-and-sos and alert you to anyone trying to get their grubby mitts on your stuff. The micro:bit is a great way to keep watch and sound the alarm even while you're not around. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to turn your micro:bit into a combination lock to alarm a box (or door or drawer, or whatever your imagination drums up). Students will put together a simple mechanism and program it using the microBit coding interface.
