In this course we will be creating unique instruments, combining sounds and visual art, playing games with sounding and listening, using sound and recording for expanded storytelling, practicing musical recording and performance, and imagining and building soundscapes. We will find, make, effect, and put a microscope on sounds big and small.
We will use littlebits electronics , (which make circuitry simple), sound recording devices, speakers, other musical electronics, and traditional sculpture/drawing materials.
We will also have the opportunity to learn about and experience works of current and past artists and musicians who use sound and technology exceptionally and creatively.
The class will include a handful of group and individual projects , and will culminate in a performance and/or group art show. The class will be flexible and oriented around the interests of students and group consensus.
This course will introduce and explore sound as a sculptural, scientific, and experimental medium. The intersections of sound, art, and technology offer extreme and unique opportunities for critical listening, exploration, and play.
