In a series of short field trips, we will explore the neighborhood and use this opportunity to take great photographic images. Kids will learn to make photograms (sun prints) outside, a camera-less process rooted in the origins of photography and learn about the connection between light and exposure; We will also design and build our own pinhole cameras from recycled materials, learn about optics and capture, and develop our paper negatives in a pop-up darkroom at Geek Forest. Thought provoking activities and assignments aim to motivate students to think about themselves and the world around them and to explore photography as a way of storytelling and for personal narrative. There will be a celebration at the end to edit, discuss and share our photographs.
