In-Person Spring 2022
Music Production Lab
What goes into producing a sound? While synthesizers are known for creating a wide array of sounds we hear in electronic music, they also break sound production down to its simplest form. In this class we will see what each waveform we sample looks like and how changing its shape affects what we hear. This lab breaks sound synthesis down into a modular format, making each part that goes into creating a sound observable and easy to understand. We will take our understanding of sound sampling to music production where any experience (or non-experience!) is welcome. In addition to playing with sound synthesizers and tactile instruments we will focus on using GarageBand and other applications to explore and create songs in groups and individually. By the end of the class we will put together a group album to be taken home and shared that will include artwork, text, and a music video.
