Dungeons & Dragons: Foggy Nights in Zoa
Zoa is a small, out-of-the-way city on a slow decline. Once known for its parks, community, and supposedly lovely weather, for most of the past few years, the town has been improbably hit by wave after wave of inclement weather and low visibility. From the freezing mist of the winters to the sweltering haze of the summers, seeing more than a block or two away from you in Zoa is something reserved for those who are able to adapt their eyes to the fog, and for the occasional clear day, but even here, "clear" is very relative. The fog has, of course, changed life in the town - on the positive side, the harvest festival in Zoa is a consistently chilling experience that's difficult to get anywhere else. However, it's much easier to list the negatives: radically increased crime rates due to criminals having an easier time making getaways, the rampant spikes in disappearances that occur every few months, and law enforcement resources being spread thin as a result of concerned civilians regularly calling in about bogus "monster sightings" in the fog, or "strange sounds" from deep below the city streets, just to name a few.
Foggy Nights in Zoa is a homebrew adventure for Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, although it integrates material from other systems, including Hunters Entertainment's Kids on Bikes. It takes inspiration from film noir-type crime dramas, the modern fantastic genre, and the web serial, SCP Foundation. Players will select one of a handful of concerned citizens or other persons of interest to play as and investigate just one facet of Zoa's oddities. Players can expect new gameplay mechanics, and decisive encounters, both in and out of combat.
