In-Person Fall 2021
Unit One: Comics, Zines & Altered Books
Boom! Pow! Bam! Ever wanted to make your own comic book, design a zine, or use old books to craft new stories? Then this is the class for you! The class will consist of three topics; comic and character creation, zine making and technique, and altered books (a project which involves recycling old volumes and turning them into new art). Throughout these three units, students will use a variety of materials including collage, drawing, painting, paper crafting, image transfer, and more. We will explore everything from different comic styles, how to draw and develop characters and a storyline, and the history behind these art forms. Students can expect to come away from this class with several finished products of their own creation.
Unit Two: Stop Motion Animation
Any action that one performs throughout the day could easily be turned into an animation –in this hands-on after school class, students will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of animation and collaborating with others to bring their unique stories to life, use their bodies, photography, paper cut outs, legos and found objects to produce their very own stop motion animations.
*If we are advised to shutdown in-person due to COVID, there is no refund for the class. It will immediately shift to online. We will reopen as soon as local and state officials deem it safe. If online is not an option for you, we can only offer credit for future classes.
