This course will involve in-depth drawing lessons for creating cartoon characters and backgrounds using different styles and techniques. Some examples of lessons include: typography in block, bubble & 3-D lettering, anatomy beginning with stick figure under-drawings in action poses, facial expressions using the eyes & mouth to create mood, and perspective using horizon line & vanishing point in our backgrounds. We will concentrate on developing single-frame cartoons in different styles such as caricatures, gag cartoons, political cartoons and greeting card art. By the end of the semester students will have completed a sketchbook of work that shows their progression through the program.
