August 24- August 28 (ages 6-10)
SUMMER OF STEAM 2020

MAKER ELECTRONICS: (morning)

Synth Sounds + Design Lab

What goes into producing a sound? We may know what a lot of things sound like but what goes into creating that sound is often unknown to us. While synthesizers are known for creating a wide array of sounds we hear in electronic music, they also break sound production down to its simplest form, allowing us to see what each waveform looks like, and how changing its shape affects what we hear. This lab breaks sound synthesis down into a modular format, making each part that goes into creating a sound observable and easy to understand.

MAKER ART/DESIGN: (afternoon)

Break & Make: Upcycled Art

In this workshop, students will be learning basic interaction and interface design through hacking recycled materials, electronics, and found objects. The students will be learning the importance of recycling and how a lot of tech devices can have a second life after their intended purpose. Just because something doesn’t work like it should does not mean it is useless! Spark your Tinkerer’s creativity through upcycling and arts and crafts!
