Engineering Lab: Lego Robotics Mad Machines (morning)
Utilizing the Lego Education Spike Essential kits, students will engage in hands-on investigation of STEAM concepts. Students will investigate everyday themes and familiar Lego building elements to solve problems through storytelling. Each day combines building elements, easy-to-use hardware, and guided drag and drop based coding for a pleasant user-friendly experience. Mad Machines will develop student’s engineering design skills as they investigate ways of defining problems, brainstorming solutions, and testing and refining prototypes. They'll refine their problem-solving skills as they create a solution to a problem that has constraints, and improve on others’ ideas. All while honing their ability to identify failure points and success criteria when comparing, modifying, and evaluating a solution.
Art + Design Lab: Urban Street Art (afternoon)
New York City is home to some of the most beautiful works of street art, especially in our home, Brooklyn! In this lab students will draw inspiration from community art to create their own graffiti pieces and learn about its culture, style, and technique and break through the negative perceptions of the amazing art form. They will learn about the history and creators of street art as well as explore styles of graffiti, sidewalk art and poster art in our very own neighborhood.
