Explore new ways to interpret the notion of design in a tangible form of expression. This class will be an introductory class for those with no prior experience with 3D printing. Each week, students will learn design tools (drawing tools, extrude tool, revolve tool, cage tool, snap tool, etc) in 3D software, which will allow them to turn objects from their imagination into real toys. We will begin with traditional/parametric design in CAD (computer assisted design) and soon graduate to new forms of generating 3D models. We will create our own forms from art, design and rapid prototyping tools to produce objects for specific functions. Students will design their own 3D creations, get to see a 3D printer in action and have chances to print and take home some (2-3 objects) of their designs.
